About The Nutcracker Ballet
Monica Loughman’s hugely popular version of The Nutcracker ballet sold out every performance last year and now she is bringing the event to the fabulous Convention Centre Dublin on the Saturday before Christmas!
The Irish Times raved about this production saying it
“exemplified athleticism, artistry, the ability to transcend the everyday”
and Michael D Higgins the President of Ireland wrote to Monica afterwards saying that,
“The future of ballet in Ireland depends on the passion and innovation of ambassadors like you”.
This event was the focus of RTE’s hit series Ballet Chancers. Some of the modern dance and hip-hop artists that took part in that series will return to perform in this year’s Nutcracker bringing acrobatics and athleticism to this ballet. The total cast is more than fifty dancers including the fabulous Anton Ploom and Anastasia Lomachenkova – the Russian stars who so thrilled audiences across Ireland last year.

The Nutcracker in 2008: RTE’s “Ballet Chancers”
Monica Loughman’s The Nutcracker is Dublin’s favourite family Christmas event. It is a magical Christmas story about a little girl called Clara who falls asleep after the Christmas party and dreams that one of her toys – the handsome Nutcracker Prince – comes to life and takes her off to the land of sweets. On their journey they meet the sugar plum fairy, battle with mouse armies and dance with performers from all over the world.
Monica Loughman Ballet performs seasonally at The Convention Centre Dublin and The National Concert Hall as well as in theatres across Ireland. The following are short videos of some of the company’s recent productions:
La Sylphide at The Convention Centre Dublin, March 2012
Masterpieces of World Opera and Ballet at The National Concert Hall, September 2012
“You are warmly invited to bring you’re whole family, from the youngest to the oldest, to be swept up in Tchaikovsky’s incredible score, dazzled by the artistry of Russia’s finest principal ballet dancers and enchanted by this tale of Clara’s dream and adventures.” Monica Loughman, Artistic Director
